The James Tee is a classic Breton-style knit top with a boxy fit. The gently curved boatneck opening is wide enough to read as a boatneck, but not so wide that your bra straps will show. The neckline is finished simply with a fold to the inside & topstitched in place. The drop shoulders allow for a grown-on cap style sleeve, or you can choose to sew the sleeves pieces on, for a bracelet length sleeve.
The straight side seams end with a split hem, with the back 1” longer than the front. The split side seam is finished with cotton twill tape, for a clean, ready-to-wear inspired finish.
DIFFICULTY: Advanced Beginner
NOTIONS: Thread, 1 1/2” yards of 3/8” cotton twill tape
SUGGESTED FABRICS: Medium weight stable 2-way or 4-way knits, like French terry, ponte, interlock knit, double knit, & jersey knit. Avoid fabrics with lots of drape or an open structure like loosely knitted sweater knits.
