GARMENT DETAILS
The Barkly skirt is a panelled A-line skirt with pockets and a range of interesting and fun to sew details. It has been designed to be worn all year round - in summer in soft linens with sandals and in winter in denim with tights and boots.
View A sits on the natural waist (the top of the waistband will sit just above the natural waist) and features a shaped waistband, slanted pockets that are inset in the side panels and a hem facing.
View B sits just below the natural waist (as it features a waist facing, rather than a waistband), has patch pockets (which are therefore optional), and side splits in the hem.
Both styles feature a centre back invisible zip for a clean finish.
Styles can be mixed and matched so that you can combine your style preferences. Check out the Barkly Skirt Style Variation Kit here.
DIFFICULTY
The pattern has been designed for advanced beginners and beyond. Through careful drafting and beautiful finishing techniques, this pattern will have you feeling very proud of both the inside and outside of your garment.
By working through this pattern, you will gain confidence in: sewing curved seams, sewing pockets, sewing an invisible zip, sewing a waistband or waist facing (depending on the variation you choose to make) and working with interfacing.
SUGGESTED FABRICS
The Barkly skirt is compatible with mid-weight to heavy-weight fabrics.
Consider using: linen, cotton canvas, cotton drill, denim, corduroy or wool.
Keep in mind that the weight of the fabric will determine the amount of structure and drape in the skirt.
Fabric requirements and finished garment measurements can be found below.
