    Great blouse/ jacket

Posted by Whey Aye Sew on 2nd Jul 2022

If you're over 25, don't be put off by the way this top is styled. It's a good pattern for a beginner and I'm very pleased with the result. I made a size 12 (sometimes I need to go up a size but this is designed to be a relaxed fit), but I lengthened the body by 2 inches and I made a cuff for the sleeves and lengthened them by 3 inches. I'm 5 foot 2 and have a short torso, but the pattern really is cropped so I needed the extra length. I used a crisp cotton with a lovely design of cranes in flight but I'm planning on making another and trying a heavier fabric to wear it as a light jacket or maybe adding more (shorter) ties to make a drapey blouse. I used the pdf pattern which was easy to use and the instructions were great. I'm looking forward to making my second. You don't have to go bare-chested to use this pattern. I wear a vest top underneath and it looks great like that too!

Gorgeous! But added bit to cover gap

Posted by Katie Begg on 22nd Mar 2022

This is a great PDF pattern, very easy instructions to follow and quick to make! I made it using the Like A Zebra Viscose Twill from Fabric Godmother and it turned out beautifully. The only thing though, I didn't want to wear a top underneath this or walk around work with the possibility of flashing through the gap in the middle, and I didn't think the ties would be able to draw the two sides close enough together (which they don't - possibly would with very thin fabric). So I added a strip of fabric that I sewed in between the facing and main fabric at the front (which meant I couldn't bag out the facing on one side, though I'm sure there's a better way of doing this). The sleeves were also more poofy that I expected but they do look good. Also sizing wise, I'm a UK 6 in normal clothes and the pattern suggested by my measurements I'd be closer to an 8, but made a 6 anyway and it was perfect. I have small boobs and it's a loose top but I think if you were particularly large-breasted you may have to adjust! Final thing, the pattern didn't state but since this is a beginner pattern, for those who haven't done set in sleeves before, the two lines on the sleeve pattern piece at the shoulder's edge show that that side of the sleeve is the back and the single line is the front! So you know which one is left and which is right :) Can't wait to make more, and since its not fitted I will make some for my friends too!!
