Description

May 9th 9.30am - 4.30pm and 10th 9.30am - 3.30pm

13 hours

This workshop is for sewers who have the basics of sewing and would like to start exploring trouser fitting.

The Morris Pants by Christine Haynes have been chosen for this class. The Morris Pants & Shorts have a high fitted waist, narrow waistband with button tab, & lapped side zipper. The front is clean & flat, while the back has darts & optional welt pockets with a button closure. The legs of the pants are slightly tapered & cropped, & are finished at the hem with an optional side split vent. The legs of the shorts are wider than the pants, & land just above the knee. For the purposes of the class, they will be made without the pockets.

Firstly we will be making adjustments to the paper pattern as per our own personal measurements and then doing a first fit using the Palmer and Pletch tissue fitting techniques to make additional adjustments. All fitting assessments will be done as a group so that everyone can see how different adjustments affect trouser fit as unfortunately it is very difficult to see this when you are having your own fitting done. Once any additional adjustments are made after the tissue fitting, the first toile will be made using gingham fabric. Gingham is the ideal fabric for trouser fitting toiles as the horizontal and vertical lines immediately indicate any fitting issues. Once again as a group we will evaluate the fit of the toiles and discuss final adjustments needed to correct the fit. These adjustments will be made to the pattern and the final toile can be made, once again in gingham, which once checked can then be converted into a reference block to be used for any future trouser projects.

We keep this class to just six students to ensure you will receive plenty of one on one time with Mercedes and fitting advice tailored specifically to your body.
