Caroline is a close-fitting dress with a slight flare at the bottom. The fit of the dress is achieved by the bias cut. The front features bust darts and a center seam. The back features shoulder and waist darts as well as a center seam. The round neckline has a keyhole opening and a button and button loop closure at the back. The dress has long, set-in, close-fitting sleeves that are slightly flared at the bottom. Caroline is above-ankle length.

RECOMMENDED MATERIALS

To sew this dress, choose dress-weight fabrics with the following properties: 

  • medium weight, with good drape, soft, non-stretch or with very little stretch, opaque

  • the fiber content can include natural fibers (silk), artificial fibers (viscose), blends (silk + polyester, etc.), and synthetics (polyester)

  • the following fabrics are recommended: satin, dress-weight viscose, stretch crepe, natural silk, artificial silk

Attention! We do not recommend stretchy (with elastane) and lightweight sheer fabrics (chiffon, organza, stretch lace).

The dress in the photo is made of artificial silk. The fabric is medium weight, soft, non-stretch and with good drape. The fiber content is 100% polyester.

IMPORTANT! When purchasing fabric, please account for shrinkage and buy 5% more than required.

  1. One button, 1 cm (3/8") in diameter

  2. Matching thread — 5 spools (1 spool for the sewing machine + 4 spools for the overlocker)

EQUIPMENT

  • sewing machine for construction

  • overlocker for finishing raw edges. This may be replaced with a stretch overlock stitch or a zigzag stitch on the sewing machine (overlock or zigzag stitch width 2–3 mm, stitch length 2.5 mm)

  • stitch-in-the-ditch foot for the sewing machine (optional)
