Description

You don’t have to give up comfort for the sake of elegance. The French Poetry Orion shorts are as easy to wear as your denim shorts, but they will give your outfit a much more polished look. I’ve always loved vintage cuts, and this one reminds me of old movies, bicycle rides and afternoons on the beach…
With only 16 A4 PDF pages to print, or 20 US letter pages, it is also a very quick pattern to make!

Difficulty:

2/5 – not difficult. You need to be familiar with reading a sewing pattern, to know how to apply a zipper and make buttonholes (tutorials available here).

Available sizes:

2 to 16

Fabric choice:

There are a lot of possibilities for this pattern. Different fabrics will create very different styles: broadcloth, chambray, lightweight denim, poplin, chino, seersucker, linen, but also crepes, suiting fabric… Make sure your fabric doesn’t crease easily: this is important for professional-looking shorts.

Fabric length:

With 60inches wide fabrics, you will need 1.09 yard. With 44inches fabrics you will need 1.20 yard. You will also need lining for the pocket (a very small amount, you can use scraps!)

You will need:

Interfacing in the right weight for your fabric, matching thread for your fabric, scissors, pins, a marking pen, a machine needle that fits your fabric type, a lining for the pocket if you choose to have it, and four 0.6’’ (1.5cm) buttons or a 10’’ (25cm) invisible zipper. Make sure to wash and let your fabric dry in the same conditions and temperature you will use for your future garment, to ensure it won’t shrink too much afterwards. Then iron your fabric and fold it in half lengthwise to cut the pattern pieces.
