    Tessuti Lois dress

Lovely pattern but not made it yet. It will be made in Tencel/linen which has a lovely drape. Tessuti patterns are heavenly. Really clear instructions. I’ve made the Richmond coat.

Beautiful dress but neckline a bit too low

Posted by Gina on 21st Jul 2022

Sizing and instructions were very good, my only problem was the neckline was too low by about 1.5” to comfortably hide a standard bra and ther was no easy way to heighten it due to the design of the dress. In the end I inserted a triangular piece of contrasting fabric which worked reasonably well. I don’t mind showing a bit of cleavage but I don’t really want to show my bra. I loved the grown on sleeve design as this tends to balance out my pear shape and I added a ruffle on the skirt to make it a bit longer.. would I make it again? Yes, only next time I would make the skirt slightly longer and omit the ruffle as I think this made it a little bottom heavy. I would also line the bodice with a lightweight viscose voile and incorporate the neckline insertion to make it a little less boobilitious! For information, I am 5’8” tall and a size 18..

The pattern is lovely with really good photographic instructions . It’s supposed to be intermediate level but as the instructions are so comprehensive, hoping it won’t be too difficult.

Easy to follow instructions with quality pattern paper.
Lovely dress very flattering, I will make this many times. I used Liberty lawn fabric that worked very well.

    Fabulous!

I’ve just finished my first Lois dress and it definitely won’t be my last. I was put off buying it for a while as it’s described as being for “super-advanced sewers”. But I love the style so eventually I decided to try. The instructions are excellent - photographs of each step which make it all a lot easier, even the invisible zip. I decided to skip the tear off vilene and stay-stitched a lot of edges instead which worked well in the fabric I was using - a cotton lawn. Perhaps the vilene would be more necessary to stabilise a trickier fabric.. It came together beautifully - like a perfect jigsaw and not too many pieces really. There is quite a lot of ease so I checked the finished garment sizes closely and sized down and got exactly the fit I wanted. It’s fantastically flattering, skimming over the curves, lengthening legs and feels wonderful on. I can’t wait to make more! What Fabric next??
