    Flattering dress but annoying pattern

Posted by Amelia on 25th May 2023

I bought the paper pattern as I was short of time for this make and didn’t want to faff around with sticking together bits of paper, but the actual pattern doesn’t have full pattern pieces in it, and they all need tracing before you start anyway. This isn’t clear anywhere on the pattern until you’re inside - not a Fabric Godmother fault, but the manufacturer, I hasten to add.

Seam allowances are a slightly odd 1/2 inch, which is a bit tight for french seams, and also just unusual. In other places they’re as small as 1/4 inch, which when working with the slippy fabrics suggested in the pattern, seems unnecessarily fiddly.

The pattern has no useful finished garment measurements (dress and strap length are no guide). I appreciate on a bias cut garment the measurements are a bit fluid, but there is literally no guide as to whether the sizing is almost the same as the body measurements, or much looser.

Instructions clear to follow, but I was mostly annoyed through this make due to the points above!
