A button-up shirt with all of the classic details and a modern, moderately slim fit.  This design features a slim collar with collar stand, an optional chest pocket, flat felled seams and a yoke.  The button band is drafted onto the shirt front to make matching plaids and stripes simple.  The hem is curved so that this shirt can be worn tucked in or loose.  The sleeves include tower plackets and the option for a hidden tab so that they can be rolled and secured at the elbow.  Choose between a center back pleat or create a more fitted look with long shaped darts.

The Fairfield includes regular sizing for slim to average figures and a separate set of pieces for larger figures to accommodate a rounded stomach.

This pattern, as part of the Cityscape Urban Menswear Collection, is an elegant silhouette accented with modern design elements.  Sew the garments in this collection to create a polished wardrobe suitable for the professional lifestyle or formal occasions.

    Fairfield Shirt (PDF version)

Posted by Celeste on 5th Mar 2020

A very good pattern - the print-at-home version was fairly easy to assemble, and the instructions are very clear and comprehensive, breaking the process down into lots of small steps, and with lots of fitting advice. A good pattern for someone who is new to sewing shirts, and there are free extra options (short sleeves, alternate pockets, etc) on the Thread Theory website, as well as a sew-along which is even more comprehensive than the instructions! My only quibble is that the pattern is designed specifically for felled seams, with offset seam allowances to reduce trimming, but I found lining up the different seam allowances at least as time-consuming as the usual seam felling method (especially when setting the sleeves). I can see how it might be helpful to those who are new to felled seams, though. On the plus side, the pattern contains alternate pattern pieces for men with a bit of a belly, which is a nice touch, as it takes into account the differences in men's body shapes.
